The Student Academic Committee has been super excited with the release of DA’s Peer Tutoring program just a few weeks ago. From the beginning, we envisioned a program that doubled as a mentoring and tutoring platform, allowing underclassmen to seek advice from their upperclassmen peers. Along the way, we realized that often, teachers were unavailable to help students or weren’t able to answer their questions fully with so many other students. Thus, with this service we hope to provide students seeking help with a fellow student’s perspective of a concept or homework, being able to give more direct and helpful advice than teachers could give. Peer Tutoring will remain a resource that works alongside your teachers to supply you with additional aid whenever you might need it.
A few examples of things you could use Peer Tutoring for:
- Help studying for a test
- Help brushing up on old concepts/reviewing new concepts
- Help on citations for a paper
- Help checking grammar or reviewing content on an essay
- Advice/what to look for before an assessment
- And much more
To schedule a Peer Tutoring session, head over to our website (peertutoring.sites.da.org) and click the “Session Signup” button to request a session. A Peer Tutor will reach out soon afterward to schedule a session whenever the two of you are available. Alternatively, if you already have a Tutor in mind, you can skip the signup form, and ask them directly as well. Tutors are required to submit a form after every session, so don’t worry about notifying us. For more information check out the website or email William (22biersach@da.org) or Aamer (22husain@da.org).
Other News from SAC:
The Student Academic Committee has gotten off to a busy start first semester. Our curriculum conversations assembly that focused on curriculum reform was a huge success and will drive our push for curriculum reform this semester as we work with Mr. Reg and RAISE on new classes and initiatives to broaden the scope of our courses. You might have heard of ‘short courses’ being offered one of which we hope ot be a Life Skills course. Also, affinity groups stay tuned for an email about a new student panel SAC is starting to advise teachers on how to approach and teach diversity. Finally, look out for a Midyear SAC survey in the next few weeks as we continue getting your feedback for how we can make academics better work for you. Here’s to a great second semester!
